About Our Department
Our goal is to bring brighter, healthier smiles to the world. Focused on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of malocclusions, we strive to provide excellent patient-centered orthodontic care to children and adults alike.
At the heart of our department is a skilled and devoted faculty supported by a caring administrative and clinical staff. Our primary objective is to educate ethical, compassionate, and versatile practitioners in the art and science of orthodontics.
Every year, our students from all corners of the globe bring in fresh perspectives and boundless energy. While we are known for our outstanding graduate programming, clinical training, and research, our goal is to equip both pre- and post-doctoral students alike with the necessary foundation and skills in orthodontics, according to their level.
Research and Scholarly Activity
Orthodontics
The UAB Department of Orthodontics is dedicated to researching orthodontic problems through a network of clinicians and scientists. Our clinical and basic laboratory enhance the diagnosis and treatment of these problems. We have research projects in the area of 3D imaging, CBCT Technology, Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies, TMJ arthritis, root resorbtion and clinical translational sciences. The Department has continuous funding with the NIH and industry totaling almost US$3 Million in the last 5 years
Facilities
The Department of Orthodontics is located on the 3rd floor of the School of Dentistry building.
Our team practices in a facility with 17 newly equipped operatories, a laboratory, a computer/video imaging room, two conference rooms, and a project room. Our facilities are furnished with with digital radiology equipment, two state-of-the-art CBCT Imaging Systems, a 3dMD Surface Imaging System, and both intra-oral/extra-oral digital impression scanning technologies. The clinic also utilizes digital photography, computer-based patient check in and appointment scheduling, and digital charts.
