Farahnaz Fahimipour, D.M.D., Ph.D., M.S., was one of 15 emerging leaders in periodontics selected from across the country to participate in LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, Action, and Development), an exclusive leadership development program hosted by the American Academy of Periodontology.
An assistant professor in the Department of Periodontology, Fahimipour joined the UAB faculty in 2022. She is a clinician-scientist who completed her three-year residency in Periodontics and her Master of Science at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry (UNC ASOD).
In her current role, Fahimipour teaches periodontology and is committed to continue collaborating with clinicians and scientists from other disciplines to advance oral and craniofacial health. She also serves within the School of Dentistry on the Research Advisory Committee and has mentored predoctoral and postdoctoral residents clinically and on research projects.
Fahimipour has published more than 40 scholarly publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals in the area of regenerative dentistry, stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. She has received several research and clinical honors, including the 2022 Educator Scholarship from the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation.
“Dr. Fahimipour is an integral part of the clinical and research enterprise in the Department of Periodontology and the School of Dentistry,” says Mia Geisinger, D.D.S., interim department chair. “We are so proud that she was recognized for her leadership and academic potential and invited to participate in the American Academy of Periodontology’s LEAD program, and we know that this is just one of many accomplishments to come!”
