Research and Teaching Interests: Performance Anxiety Management, Meditation for Musicians, Body Mapping and the Alexander Technique, Dowland Lute Songs

Office Hours: By appointment

Praised for the “clarity in her singing as well as rich expressiveness” (Journal of Singing), soprano Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk has performed at Weill Recital Hall, Chapelle du Bon-Pasteur in Québec City, and the Piccolo Teatro in Assisi, Italy. Chamber and orchestral performances include appearances with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Bach Festival, Amherst Early Music Festival, and Bourbon Baroque.

Kristine’s solo CD with clarinetist Denise Gainey, THE SECRET EXIT, was released by Naxos in 2020. Colin Clarke of Fanfare hailed this world premiere recording “a most moving selection of songs, beautifully recorded.” Her solo CD of Dowland lute songs was released in 2008 by Centaur. She has performed, lectured, and published throughout North America on the socio-political intrigue surrounding the songs.

Dr. Hurst-Wajszczuk served two terms as NATS Vice President for Workshops, on the board of Wisconsin NATS, as Alabama NATS Governor, and as the Education Chair for Southeastern Regional NATS. She served as the Webinar Chair for the Association of Body Mapping Educators. In 2007, she founded the first student NATS group in Alabama, and has served as their advisor ever since. Also an award-winning opera director, her productions have won first, second, and third place awards through the National Opera Association. From 2019-2025, she served as the inaugural Associate Dean of the UAB Honors College.

Having researched performance anxiety management for musicians for over two decades, she is also a Licensed Body Mapping Educator, a NASM certified personal trainer, and a certified meditation teacher. A two-time Fulbright finalist, her workshops have been featured at conference throughout North America and Europe, as well as the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna and in summer sessions in Szeged, Hungary. 2026 residencies include the University of Manchester and the University of Birmingham (U.K.), as well as the Royal Conservatoire at The Hague.

Dr. Hurst-Wajszczuk holds the B.M. in Voice Performance and the M.M. in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. She earned the D.M.A. in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder. For more information, please visit www.kristinehurst.com.
