Caleb Owenby currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trombone and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at The University of Alabama At Birmingham. Dr. Owenby holds degrees from The Florida State University (B.M.E) and The University of Southern Mississippi (M.M.) and (D.M.A).

Dr. Owenby is an avid performer and has been a member Mississippi Symphony, Meridian Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony, Wilmington Symphony, the Mississippi Capitol Big Band, the Hardy Street Brass Quintet, and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, and has performed as a soloist with the Jones College Wind Ensemble.

Before coming to UAB, Dr. Owenby served as the Brass Instructor at Jones County Junior College where his duties included applied brass lessons, leading brass chamber music, assisting with athletic band activities, and teaching brass methods. He also served as the Assistant Enlisted Conductor in the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, Cherry Point, NC where he led the band in over 300 ceremonies each year.

Besides teaching and performing music, Dr. Owenby is an advocate for new music and has led and participated in several consortiums for trombone, brass quintet, band, and various other brass ensembles.
