Research is one of UAB’s strategic pillars, and also is one of the priorities in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Strategic Plan. All of our students—undergraduate and graduate—are encouraged to participate in research when possible. The College and the University provide support for our students via faculty advice and guidance, identification of research opportunities, facilitating interdisciplinary cooperation, and providing forums for publicizing results.
Research Opportunities in the College
The College provides Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) through the Center for Nanoscale Materials and Biointegration. These opportunities are open to UAB students and to those from other universities.
Individual departments may also offer opportunities to their majors. (Watch this video to learn more about research opportunities for biology students.) Students are encouraged to speak to their advisors and professors about these specific projects.
In addition, the Department of History is home to the Vulcan Historical Review, a journal that is student-written and student-edited by undergraduate and graduate students.
