Dr. Britney C. Murphy is an Assistant Professor of History and African American Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also serves as Internship Coordinator for both programs. She earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of Connecticut in 2023 and specializes in modern U.S. history, African American history, urban history, and public history.

Her research on national service, citizenship, and community activism has received competitive recognition, including the Huggins Quarles Award from the Organization of American Historians and a Dissertation Fellowship from the University of Connecticut Humanities Institute. A former AmeriCorps VISTA and National Civilian Community Corps member, Dr. Murphy integrates community engaged scholarship into both her teaching and research.
