After more than 20 years teaching at Michigan State University, Kelly is thrilled to join the Blazers at UAB. She teaches classes on gender, health, and instructional communication, and team-teaches CMST 110, an introduction to interpersonal communication.

Deeply committed to undergraduate and graduate education, Kelly firmly believes that effective communication skills are your passport to more effective relationships in both your personal life and professional endeavors. Her classes focus on developing these skills in her students so they can see how they apply to a variety of contexts. While at Michigan State she garnered several teaching awards and enjoyed mentoring her McNair Dreams scholars in their summer research opportunities, serving as an Honors College Advisor, and as a Faculty Advisor for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Up ‘Til Dawn student organization. She looks forward to mentoring and advising her Blazer undergrads in a similar way.

An avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Kelly enjoys team-teaching with her colleague/spouse Steve and spending time with their three sons; visiting the Cosmic Candy store in Pentwater, Michigan; searching for the best hot-dog in whatever town she is in, and being a group fitness instructor for over 25 years.
