Faculty receive honors for their commitment to disability support
UAB Disability Support Services named this year’s winners of the Spring 2018 Faculty Awards. In this annual event, two faculty members are selected by students and through a vetting process of the professional staff in DSS. This year’s honorees are Mickie Powell (Ph.D.) and Robin Lorenz (M.D., Ph.D.).

Parking & Transportation to offer a para-transit service to students, faculty and staff
UAB Parking & Transportation will offer a new van service for students, faculty and staff with mobility impairments start of the fall semester. This service will be called BlazeRide and will be in collaboration with Disability Support Services and the AWARE Disability Management Progam.

ADRS College Prep Program Now Held on UAB Campus
Each summer, the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) offers a statewide College Prep program to all ADRS consumers with a plan to attend post-secondary training. The program originated in Birmingham in the late 1980’s and was first held on the campus of ADRS Lakeshore.

Simulations promote a better grasp of campus accessibility
Students, faculty and staff put themselves in the positions of people with ADHD, dyslexia, multiple sclerosis and hearing, mobility and visual impairment to better understand obstacles to accessibility on campus.

Van service for employees with limited mobility begins Aug. 21
Just in time for the fall semester, UAB Parking and Transportation will launch BlazeRide, a new van service program that will operate 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and provide door-to-door accessible transport.
