UAB is seeking a director for its Global and Community Leadership Honors Program.
The director must have a vision to continue to develop and provide leadership for this new Honors Program, which begins fall 2007. The director has full responsibility for the administrative and academic operations of the program. The duties include innovative curriculum development, recruitment of highly qualified and diverse students, providing in-depth advising and mentoring to the honors students, recruitment of faculty to teach special honors seminars and courses, program assessment and working collaboratively with UAB’s existing liberal arts University Honors Program, Science and Technology Honors Program and the school honors programs.
The Global and Community Leadership Honors Program is a new program designed to provide unique learning opportunities for students throughout their academic experience. Students will be able to participate in special honors courses relating to global and community issues, and in international and community learning experiences, with the objective of becoming prepared for leadership roles on a global, national, or local level.
The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree and an excellent record of teaching, scholarly activity and service. A tenured faculty position within an academic unit at UAB is preferred. Experience in honors education and/or interdisciplinary studies is desirable. Effective administrative experience in a university setting is preferred. The director of the Global and Community Leadership Honors Program is a 12-month position, reporting to the associate provost for Undergraduate Programs. The review of applications begins Feb. 16.
