The annual WELLSCREENS campaign for the hospital and university campus will return March 6-April 24.
The 15-minute health screening, provided by UAB Employee Wellness, is free for all full-time and part-time regular UAB, UA Health Services Foundation, UAB Health System and UAB Hospital employees.
“One of the things that makes UAB great is how well our employees invest in the lives of our students and patients,” said Employee Wellness Director Anna Threadcraft. “However, that can prevent us from prioritizing our personal wellness. We often check our cellphone battery level more than our personal wellness level.”
A WELLSCREEN visit is a confidential health screen that measures blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI, triglycerides and total cholesterol/HDL ratio, giving participants a snapshot of their health status.
“Scheduling a WELLSCREENS visit is one simple step for an employee to take a look at their personal health,” Threadcraft said.
Employees enrolled in an active UAB, UA Health Services Foundation, UAB Health System and UAB Hospital medical plan may earn a one-time gift of $50 for participating, regardless of results. Last year, more than 2,200 employees who scheduled their free onsite WELLSCREEN visit earned a total $229,350.
WELLSCREENS appointments are available in seven locations:
- UAB Avondale: March 6-7
- UAB Hospital North Pavilion: March 13-15, March 20-22
- Alumni House: March 27-28
- Administration Building: March 29-30
- UAB Hospital West Pavilion: April 3-4; April 10-12
- Campus Recreation: April 17-18
- The Kirklin Clinic: April 23-24
Employees who work in a UAB facility outside the UAB 100-block radius or who had blood work taken after Oct. 25, 2017, that fits the requested metrics, can have their health care provider complete and return the WELLSCREENS Physician Fax Form before April 25. Those actively enrolled in a UAB benefit plan may still qualify for the $50 incentive.
