The UAB Medicine Trail, part of the revamped campus walking trail system, now extends to Children’s of Alabama. The extension officially opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 23.
“As a health care organization, which is very committed to employee health and well-being, we are very excited about the UAB and Children’s walking trail for employees of both organizations,” said Doug Dean, chief human resource officer for Children’s.
“This is a beautiful example of organizations partnering for the greater community good, and the visibility of both staff and guests in our hospitals seeing others commit to walking has a viral effect in recruiting others to the health and wellness journey.”

The ceremony will be held in the second-floor lobby of the Benjamin Russell Building at 9:15 a.m. Dean, Children’s CEO Michael Warren and other members of senior leadership are scheduled to attend. Patients, families and employees of Children’s and UAB are also invited.
Walkers who use the UAB/Children’s trail anytime between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m on Aug. 23 can scan the QR code posted along the route for a chance to win a Fitbit device, courtesy of UAB Employee Wellness.
