Professor Yogesh Dwivedi, Ph.D., who holds UAB's Elesabeth Ridgely Shook Endowed Chair in Psychiatry, has been appointed chair of the Pathophysiological Basis of Mental Disorders and Addictions Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health. The section reviews applications seeking to study the molecular and neurobiological mechanisms associated with various mental disorders and substance abuse. His two-year term began July 1.
Dwivedi is an expert in the molecular biology of mood disorders and suicide, and his research interests include the search for a biomarker that will indicate the likelihood of a person’s attempting suicide. He joined the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology in 2013.
