The UAB family has just a few days left to vote for the UAB Marching Blazers as they vie for a $50,000 grant in the Pepsi Challenge.
The UAB Marching Blazers need the grant to purchase new sound equipment, a new set of brass instruments, a UAB Blazers parade banner and an 18-wheeler truck to carry all of their equipment to games and performances, says Director Sue Samuels, Ph.D. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The 2011 Pepsi Challenge kicked off in April. Each month, Pepsi is giving away more than $1 million to 60 ideas that move communities forward. Pepsi will select up to 10 awardees a month. Grants at this level are for wide-reaching ideas with groups and organizations putting in significant time and effort, according to the Pepsi Challenge website. Pepsi also offers power voting: tied to product purchase, codes for online entry found on marked Pepsi products now through Sept. 30 will allow voters to apply bonus votes to one idea they like, up to 10 times per day.
