During the past two years, employees have been allowed to carry up to three times their annual accrual of the vacation time provided by UAB, UAB Hospital, UAB LLC and UAHSF. While this exception initially was set to expire at the end of 2022, it now is being extended through Dec. 31, 2023.

Because pandemic-related restrictions on gathering and travel made it difficult to use paid leave, all UAB employees will be able to keep and rollover any excess vacation through the end of 2023 under an extension approved by UAB and UAB Medicine.

On Dec. 31, 2023, the total maximum accrual will revert to two times the annual vacation accrual, and beginning Jan. 1, 2024, any excess vacation will be converted to sick time to align with the Vacation — HR Policy 301. See table below for accrual details.

Vacation accrual rates by employee classification and length of continuous service, including maximum accrual per year, annual carry-over limits, and temporary carry-over limits valid through December 31, 2023.
