Portrait of Moorer, wearing a hat and pea coat, next to Blaze statue outside Collat School of Business

"Reynaldo Julius Moorer, a Collat School of Business student, poses in front of the Blaze statue after a short interview for Humans of UAB. ‘Fear doesn't really exist in my mind,’ he said. 'I mean, I'm ready to fail today if it's gonna get me a step closer to where I gotta go.’” — Andrea Mabry, university photographer

Overhead view of four laptops on a white table, with hands at each laptop working

“We spent a fun afternoon photographing in one of UAB's freshly renovated spaces, the beautiful McCallum Basic Health Sciences Building. Everything is so clean, new and clutter-free. With the use of a ladder and a wide angle lens, we were able to achieve this cool bird’s-eye-view perspective of UAB employees during a meeting.” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

Portrait of Jamie Smith, arms folded, in front of the glass skylight in the North Pavilion

“I loved photographing Jamie Smith, a UAB employee who collapsed at work and was saved by multiple UAB employees of varying specialties who stepped in. She was super kind and great on camera. I loved shooting in the North Pavilion Healing Gardens in front of the beautiful pyramid. Her story is worth reading.” — Ian Logue, university photographer

A young patient is being cared for by a gowned dentist.

“I recently got to photograph a wonderful event, Give Kids a Smile, at the UAB School of Dentistry. It was a very active morning that resulted in 42 children receiving free dental care. I loved being a part of it! There was a waiting area with face painting and activity pages to entertain them why they waited. Then they had their turn at quality, caring oral health care.” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

Closeup of the many different colors of LED lights in the tunnel

“Birmingham's rainbow LED tunnel on 18th Street is pure delight, day or night. New photos of the tunnel will be coming to the DAL [the UAB Digital Asset Library] soon.” — Andrea Mabry, university photographer

Overhead view of three students walking on a sidewalk on campus through a hedge of bushes

“Walking around the campus photographing student life is something we do pretty regularly. I'm a fan of the pedestrian bridge leading to the Collat School of Business and the perspective it offers. In this particular image, I also really like the repeated red of the sweatshirt found in the natural environment and the color of the red hair mimicked in that of the bricks. Other visual elements that get my attention are the triangles in the composition — one in the bottom half of the image formed by the perimeter of the bushes and another in the three students walking along the sidewalk.” — Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

Side view of an employee at Campus Dining wearing a Mardi Gras hat and mask scanning the card of a student at the facility

"It's so fun to see how the campus celebrates different holidays. This month, Campus Dining dressed up the Commons with a Mardi Gras theme and I loved how everyone got into the festivity of it all. Students could walk in and take a picture with the big balloon display and pick up some Mardi Gras goodies before continuing inside to have lunch with a live band."— Ian Logue, university photographer
