Beginning this month, the UAB Center for Teaching and Learning is adding two new opportunities for faculty to learn, connect and expand their teaching practice.
“Building Blocks” is a new workshop format consisting of three 90-minute sessions, meeting on the same day and time over three weeks, focused on practical, research-backed teaching strategies. Registration for all three workshops in a series is recommended, but participants are welcome to attend the sessions that best fit their schedule. Participants who attend all three workshops will be eligible to complete an assignment and to earn 35,000 points in total toward a CTL certificate.
Two building blocks are launching in June:
Teaching Practices That Support Student Success: This building block explores how to create inclusive and welcoming classrooms, support students from global cultural backgrounds, and help students develop critical thinking skills. Workshops will be held June 10, 17 and 24 from noon-1:30 p.m. in Lister Hill Library, Room 411. Register here.
Basics of AI for UAB Teachers This building block gives participants an opportunity to explore what AI means for UAB educators, introduces the basics of prompt generation and covers how to use AI to redesign an element of a course, or the entire course itself. Workshops will be held June 11, 18 and 25 from noon–1:30 p.m. in Lister Hill Library, Room 411. Register here.
