Scroll down to look back at some of the memorable images captured by UAB's official photographers in March 2025.

IL Bunnies

UAB Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit

I had the pleasure of going into the RNICU to photograph some adorable patients dressed in spring-themed costumes. The nurses in the RNICU work so hard and it is rewarding to see how happy and healthy the babies are!— Ian Logue, university photographer

AM Campus Green Bench

Campus Green

"April was all about outdoor student life for me. The campus starts to become really green again, and students are ready to take advantage of the great weather."— Andry Mabry, university photographer

AM Green Group Dog

Campus Green

I caught these students lounging with their pup, who wanted to be in all the photos and give me all the love.— Andrea Mabry, university photographer

JAT Xavier Golden

University Hall

All of the commencement stories are wildly impressive and usually leave me with my mouth agape. I photographed Xavier Golden, a hard-working, ambitious, Microsoft-bound graduate [Read Golden's story here]. He was kind, so easy to photograph, and enthusiastic about being photographed-always a plus. I like this particular photo because of the perspective of looking up at him and seeing the building in the background where he spent so much time while studying at UAB. The physical structure is present, but it's also metaphorically behind him in his journey.— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

JAT Mercer

Hill Student Center

“Melissa Mercer, Miss UAB, was another of the new graduates I had the chance to photograph in April. [Read Mercer's story here.] We met on the balcony of Hill Student Center. I was captivated by her positivity and contagious smile! I like the composition of this image because of the leading lines in the framework of the windows, which guide the viewer's attention toward Melissa and the wonderful eye-catching greens of the robe and trees.”— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer

IL Tyler Thomas

Pedestrian bridge between the Nursing and Optometry buildings

Commencement season is lots of fun for many reasons, and one is getting to tell the stories of some exceptional UAB graduates. Tyler Thomas walked in the spring commencement ceremonies with three graduate degrees and was wonderful to photograph on a gorgeous day over University Boulevard. JAT Metal Pour Sloss

Sloss Furnaces

I really enjoy documenting UAB's art classes and have gotten to do so both on campus and now off, as shown in this image from Sloss Furnaces during the Metal Fabrication & Casting class taught by Stacey Holloway. When creating a photograph, I'm drawn to basic art elements and principles. The repeated rectangular windows create leading lines that direct the eye toward the figure on the right side of the frame. The image is balanced by that figure and the metal structure on the left side of the frame. You can also see those same lines from the windows, some in the ceiling, and in the handle of the shovel leading to the center of the image where the movement/action is taking place. The bold yellow jackets and metal ribbing in the ceiling of the structure offer pleasing repetition. After using a camera for several decades, it's not as arduous a process as it sounds to compose an image; it's more of a fun, personal challenge.— Jennifer Alsabrook-Turner, university photographer
