Oct. 25 Hang out with history
Oak Hill, it is said, is where Birmingham's history comes to life as the city’s oldest cemetery and resting place of its most famous and infamous pioneers — mayors to madams. Learn a little more about the Magic City during the Fall History Tour 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are available online. (Come back Friday night for an outdoor film fest.)
Oct. 26 Attend a real foreign creepfest
Sidewalk brings a special screening of “Goodnight Mommy,” a 2014 Austrian horror film that test the bonds between a mother and her twin boys, to the historic Carver Theatre. Advance tickets are available online. Doors open at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. showing. Take this sneak peek while you decide.
Oct. 27 Smash a pumpkin
It’s a good day for a tailgate on the Green with Lambda Chi Alpha — just one of the activities being held there every day this week to raise money for Feeding America. (Come back Thursday and purchase a pumpkin to carve, take home or smash with a sledge hammer.)
Oct. 28 Behold crowning glories
Tonight contestants compete for the title of Miss UAB 2016. The annual scholarship pageant, an official preliminary of the Miss Alabama and Miss America competitions, will begin 7 p.m. in Jemison Concert Hall.
Oct. 29 See next-generation geniuses at work
The inaugural UAB Graduate Student Research Exchange is a forum for those in different disciplines to interact and learn from each other while gaining valuable practice in presenting research. The poster competition is open to the public noon-2 p.m.
Oct. 30 Come as you dare
Which is scarier: Two free hours of Zumba or Center Court filled with costumed adults? You’ll only know if you attend the Halloween Zumbathon 5:30-7:30 p.m. Prizes and giveaways will be there for the brave. And lucky winners of the costume contests for individual and couples will win Snoozy's gift cards. Free to UAB students and employees. (Afterward, check out Haunted Hulsey and its scare zone of Urban Legends 8-11 p.m for $5.)
Oct. 31 If you build it, they will scream
Birmingham’s new cornerstone event for Halloween is turning Parkside District into one huge, incredible daylong festival and Field of Screams. Food trucks, carnival rides, games, live entertainment, music, costume contests, a zombie run, parade and more. There’s even a special late-night parties just for grownups, including the city’s premier Halloween Costume Gala. Check the schedule online. $10 for ages 13 and older, free for children 12 and younger.
