Get details about the tuition discount program and locate participating sites at KinderCare.com/UAB.UAB has entered an agreement with KinderCare, which operates multiple nationally accredited facilities in metro Birmingham, to provide a discount to UAB employees and students who enroll children there. The contract with the privately operated center will help UAB expand child-care options for employees while it moves forward with plans to attract a new, privately operated facility on or near campus.
Employees of the university and UAB Medicine will receive a 10 percent discount on full-time, part-time and drop-in tuition for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in KinderCare’s child care centers or before- and after-school sites, said Christopher Clifford, associate vice president of Business and Auxiliary Services.
This offer is available to all eligible families, including those already enrolled in a participating center. Enrollment is provided on a space-available basis as determined by the centers, and proof of enrollment or employment at UAB is required when applying. This is one of several measures to be implemented to expand access to and affordability of child care based on the recommendations of a joint UAB-UAB Health System committee.
Similar agreements are being pursued with other accredited providers that should secure up to an additional 50 spots, Clifford said. The university and the health system is underwriting those agreements.
