John Jones, Ph.D., who has worked closely with the team in the Office of the Provost in his role as vice president for Student Affairs, will assume the role of interim provost effective April 1.
A national search will continue in order to successfully recruit a new provost to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Linda Lucas, Ph.D., who will retire at the end of March after nearly 40 years with UAB.
“Dr. Lucas leaves a tremendous legacy as a faculty member, administrator, colleague and friend, and John is committed to being a bridge that keeps our momentum going in a positive direction for our students, faculty and staff,” President Ray Watts said.
“I thank John for his enthusiasm in filling this important role. And with great appreciation for all Linda has done in her time with us, we wish her the very best in retirement.”
Jones, who joined UAB in July 2015, will maintain his responsibilities in Student Affairs during his time as interim provost.
