In 1963, decorations installed outside the hospital’s main entrance on 19th Street South highlighted the “75th Year of Good Health to All.” When the first iteration of UAB Hospital was established in 1888, it was created to care for Birmingham’s needy citizens.
UAB is still committed to advancing treatment for underrepresented communities through recruiting interested employees and students to sign up for the All of Us Research Program, an effort from the National Institutes of Health to advance individualized prevention, treatment and care for people of all backgrounds. The program’s aim is to enroll 1 million or more volunteers.
