UAB panelists will discuss the repercussions of the #MeToo movement in higher education and the legal and ethical issues leaders must consider when reviewing allegations of sexual misconduct 6-8 p.m. Sept. 26 in Heritage Hall Room 102.
Most allegations have been leveled against high-profile celebrities and politicians but higher education has not been immune. During the public forum, “Critical Conversations: Amplifying the Voices and Echoes of #MeToo,” panelists will examine sexual misconduct on college campuses and in the workplace, the culture of sexual abuse and misconduct, ways in which these issues are compounded when victims face retaliation for reporting abuse and consider next steps for the broader community.
The panel includes Kasey Robinson, J.D., Title IX coordinator; Lisa Sharlach, Ph.D., director, Women’s and Gender Studies; Mandy Parente, interpersonal violence prevention coordinator and Olivio Clay, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology. Anita Clemon, vice president for Institutional Equity and chair of the UAB Commission on the Status of Women, will be the facilitator.
“Critical Conversations” is an annual civic forum series directed by the UAB Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to provide a platform for civil discourse and engage, collaborate and create solutions to social issues affecting our communities.
