UAB’s annual open enrollment for benefits will begin 7 a.m. Oct. 18 and conclude 5 p.m. Nov. 4. Eligible employees can choose among dental, vision and health insurance plans, plus voluntary life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance and tax-deferred spending accounts for health and dependent care for 2025. You can review all the information you need in the open enrollment toolkit anytime on the UAB for Me portal.

2024 OPE 2 new2. Action is required

This is an active open enrollment, which means any benefit-eligible employee who does not select a 2025 health care plan option during the enrollment period will not have UAB-provided health care coverage (medical, dental, vision) beginning January 2025. Detailed offerings of these plans will be provided in coming weeks to better enable you to make the best choice for your household.

During the enrollment process, employees will be required to add or update their emergency contact information. An employee’s emergency contact information will be kept confidential and will only be used in the event of an emergency.

2024 OPE 33. Vision and dental premium rates are flat

Once again, UAB has been able to keep dental and vision rates flat for 2025.

2024 OPE 44. Expect changes to medical premium rates and plan designs

For UAB to remain competitive in the market, stay in line with national benchmarks and keep costs down as much as possible for all employees, there will be plan design changes for 2025. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, UAB St. Vincent’s operations and sites of care will be part of the UAB network for the Viva UAB and Viva Access plans.

2024 OPE 5 new5. Detailed information will be available in coming weeks

As weekly articles specific to various benefit plan offerings are rolled out, detailed open enrollment information will be housed in the UAB for Me portal. UAB will offer employees the opportunity to ask questions and get answers before choosing benefits. More information will be provided as those plans are finalized. Meanwhile, contact your school/department HR consultant or the UAB Benefits office, benefits@uab.edu or 205-934-3458.
