Whether you’re working or playing remotely, crank up one of these Spotify playlists created by an alumnae, employees and campus DJs to help beat the social-distancing blues — and maybe get a few dance moves in.
A Blazing Work-from-Home Playlist by the UAB National Alumni Society
This playlist is a compilation of suggestions from alumni gathered from the National Alumni Society’s social media channels to help Blazers working remotely to de-stress and stay productive.
“We hope it brings some joy to their workdays and helps them feel connected with their Blazer family during this time of social-distancing,” said Liz McCullough, alumni affairs specialist.
Features: Former UAB Football quarterback Sam Hunt’s newest record, “Southside,” released April 3
Social “DisDancing” Jams by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
These songs were compiled by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) with input from UAB’s Campus Communicators and commenters on social media. Music is a universal language that can evoke different emotional and cultural responses from the listener, says Ashleigh Aldridge, ODEI communications director.
“As a team, ODEI often plays music in our offices and we all enjoy a good playlist,” Aldridge continued. “During a recent Zoom meeting, we were all discussing coping mechanisms while working from home and decided this would be a great time to compile our work-from-home favorites and ask others for their picks, too.”
Features: Tongue-in-cheek takes on coronavirus with songs such as Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Pink’s “You Make Me Sick” along with inspirational choices such as Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes’ “Wake Up Everybody” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”
Stay Away and Dance in Your PJs by BlazeRadio
This playlist is a collection of songs across various genres designed to get people moving, compiled by BlazeRadio DJs.
“There’s a ton of things we can’t do during this time of social-distancing, so it is imperative that we enjoy the simple things,” they said. “We might not be able to go clubbing or host kickbacks with friends, but we can definitely dance around our homes.”
Features: Classic dance jams such as The Jackson 5’s “ABC” and Earth, Wind and Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland” coupled with newer hits such as Lizzo’s “Juice.”
