Dr. Battaglia has been a Microbiology postdoc in Dr. Garcia’s and Dr. Wahl’s lab for three years and recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their move to UAB from UNC. Her goals as Chair is to advocate for postdoc interests and support on campus. She strongly supports quality of life changes for postdocs and would like to promote paid parental leave, postdoc specific parking, and the creation of a postdoc grant writing cohort. Finally, she would like to promote a space for postdocs to voice their concerns about their careers, training, immigration, and work-life balance. Dr. Battaglia plans on using the position of Chair to support future scientists and to continue promoting equality and diversity here at UAB.

A postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Otolaryngology, Dr. Wodeyar's academic journey has been marked by not only rigorous research but also meaningful engagement with colleagues and the broader academic community over the past two decades. He has actively participated in various capacities of leadership roles and initiatives throughout his academic journey in governmental organizations, academic institutions, and public organizations. Thus, he understands the unique challenges postdocs face during this transitional phase in their careers, and he is committed to advocating for their needs and interests within the institution. Dr. Wodeyar hopes to be the voice of his peers to bridge the gaps between different research disciplines.

Dr. Nazam is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Pediatric Surgery. In Dr. Beierle's lab, she is working towards developing novel therapeutics for children with high-risk neuroblastoma and Group 3 medulloblastoma. Last year, Dr. Nazam served as Peer-group Chair. In that role, she organized peer group events such as the K99 forum event and the industry employer pop-up. She also helped organize social events visting the Montgomery Museum and hosting a Railroad Park Picnic. As Secretary, she hopes to work together with other PDA officers towards building a more unified and empowered postdoc fraternity.

Dr. Angad Yadav is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology. With a strong background in event coordination, committee leadership, and academic involvement, he has been involved in organizing multiple events from the Defence Institute in New Delhi, India to the Michael Miller Memorial Oration Lecture Series and CDIB lab research retreats here at UAB. Dr. Yadav is enthusiastic about the possibility of contributing his skills and experiences to the PDA and looks forward to the opportunity of working with the postdoctoral community.

Dr. Jakir Hossain Bhuiyan Masud is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science. With a strong background in Digital Health of more than 19 years and a passion for advancing knowledge through innovative research, he is drawn to the Research Chair position because of the commitment to interdisciplinary research and innovation. He is excited about the opportunity to contribute to and further develop the institution’s research agenda, particularly in the areas of healthcare. Furthermore, he has been working as a Technical Advisory Member of Healthy Ageing at the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2022. This experience has strengthened his leadership and communication skills, enabling him to effectively advocate for research initiatives and build strong relationships with stakeholders. In conclusion, Dr. Masud is excited about the opportunity to bring his experience, skills, and passion for research to the Research Chair position.

Dr. Amit Chaudhary is a postdoctoral scholar in the in the Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology.

Dr. Elizabeth Valles Capetillo is a second-year postdoctoral researcher in the Cognition, Brain, and Autism lab within the Department of Pyschology. She is particularly interested in the neural and cognitive correlates of social communication in the autistic population. While Dr. Capetillo thoroughly enjoys the research process, she also enjoys contributing to the creation of a more conducive learning and teaching environment. This has inspired her to play an active role in several initiatives aimed at fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia and beyond. For instance, she has had the privilege of being part of the R-Ladies Community, where she serves as co-organizer of a chapter in Mexico. The primary objective of the R-Ladies Community is to provide support to women and minorities who are interested in coding. In addition, she serves as an advisor to children, assisting them in developing research projects in the PAUTA program (Adopt a Talent program). PAUTA strives to promote equity and excellence in mathematics and science for young people. As an Executive Board Member, Dr. Capetillo hopes to contribute to creating a supportive and safe environment for other postdocs and to participate in developing new opportunities and professional development.

Dr. Alaaeldin Hodhod is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Endocrinology. His work centers on understanding the intricate pathophysiology of diabetes, striving to uncover innovative approaches to treatment and ultimately improve patient outcomes. Before joining UAB, he practiced as an internal medicine doctor in one of the largest universities in Egypt. During that period, his clinical background gave him firsthand insight into the challenges faced by patients and the pressing need for effective therapeutic solutions.

Dr. Maryam Shaikh is a postdoctoral scholar in the in the Department of Pediatric Surgery. This position will give her the opportunity to connect with postdocs, especially new ones seeking support networks. She is excited to explore career development opportunities along with other postdocs as well as work for maintaining flexibility and inclusivity in the PDA and facilitate scientific collaborations
