Mahmoud T. KhalafAllah, MD, MSc, Vision Science Graduate Program Student, has been accepted into the prestigious National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (NAEVR) Emerging Vision Scientist Program. This honor recognizes his contributions to vision research and provides an opportunity to advocate for the future of eye health.
"The program's focus on advocacy aligns perfectly with my passion for translating scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for society,” KhalafAllah said.
The Emerging Vision Scientist Program brings together the brightest minds in vision science. Participants engage with policymakers in Washington, D.C., sharing their groundbreaking work and advocating for crucial funding. This program fosters innovation and ensures continued progress in preventing, treating, and curing eye diseases.
As a part of the program, KhalafAllah will present his research to the United States Senate and House Representatives to raise awareness about vision-related issues. This hands-on experience will teach him how to effectively advocate for increased support and funding for the National Institutes of Health/National Eye Institute.
This is his first direct involvement with NAEVR, but not Khalafallah’s first time participating in advocacy exercises. He participated in the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology’s advocacy day earlier this year where NAEVR was a partner.
“I recognize NAEVR's pivotal role in advocating for vision research awareness and funding, and I am eager to contribute to its mission,” he said.
