Improving sickle cell outcomes
Pack-Mabien will use the $500 Love of Learning Scholarship to support a mixed-methods research study at the University of South Alabama Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center to examine the transition process of adolescents and young adults with sickle cell disease from pediatrics to adult care.
The Love of Learning Scholarship is given annually to 200 active Phi Kappa Phi members nationwide to fund post-baccalaureate professional development. Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary college honor society, was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, has more than 1.5 million members on more 300 college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines.
Pack-Mabien, who has provided compassionate and comprehensive health care for pediatric and adult patients with sickle cell disease for more than 20 years, has also been invited to speak at the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama’s 11th Annual Advanced Nursing Practice Conference in Birmingham, Alabama, Oct. 27-28.
