BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Recent University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) graduate Jennifer Giles, 21, of Huntsville has been selected for the Teach for America corps.

Teach for America is a highly competitive national corps of recent college graduates and professionals who commit two years to teaching to help expand educational opportunities in under-served urban and rural public schools.

Giles, who earned a bachelor's degree in psychology May 8, will teach science at an inner-city high school in Houston for two years. To prepare for her assignment, she will attend an intensive training institute this summer.

Giles was a student in the UAB Department of Psychology Honors Program and worked as a research assistant in the department.

After completing her assignment with Teach for America, she plans to attend graduate school to study clinical psychology. She is the daughter of Kirk and Cynthia Giles of Huntsville.
