BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will celebrate diversity and international exchange during International Education Week Nov. 15-22 on the UAB campus.
International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and to attract future leaders from abroad to study in the United States.
During the week UAB will host several special events, foreign films and panel discussions. The UAB Foreign Film Series will present "Who's Camus Anyway" at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S. The event is free and open to the public. For more details, call 205-934-4652. "Who's Camus Anyway" is a Japanese film with English subtitles. Mitsuo Yanagimachi directed the film, about the misadventures of a group of college students trying to make their own film.
UAB will present a discussion, "Business Executives Around the World: International Panel," featuring local business executives discussing the benefits and challenges of doing business in a global economy. The event will be held 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Business and Engineering Complex, Room 109, 1150 10th Ave. S. A second panel discussion, "Japan in the 21st Century: Energy, Economy and the Environment," will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the UAB Smolian International House, 1600 10th Ave. S. The panelists will include Atsushi Yamakoshi, director of Keidanren-USA; Masakazu Nonishi, senior representative of Panasonic Corp. of North America; and William R. Farrell, chairman of the National Association of Japan America Societies.
