BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The fuel-efficientV-6 Honda Accord will soon be produced at the car manufacturer's Lincoln, Ala., plant, according to a report from The Birmingham News.  The move to build a more fuel efficient car at the facility that already produces the Pilot SUV and Odyssey minivan should help guarantee the Alabama plant's sustained growth, said Bob Robicheaux, Ph.D., chairman of the Department of Marketing and Industrial Distribution at the UAB School of Business.

"This is a most important announcement for the Lincoln plant, because it provides a basis for long-term growth," Robicheaux said.  "There is no question that following record fuel prices over the summer consumers want more fuel-efficient cars, and with the fuel-efficient Accord now in the mix here in Alabama, the future for building cars in Lincoln looks bright; this will be a strong positive for the plant."
