The UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) hosts Robotics Camp, the second in a series of camps targeting high school sophomores through seniors. High school students will build simple robots using Legos NXT robotics kits, and they will learn to program their robots. Robotics projects include Sumo Wrestling, Kick the Can, Balloon Buster and Simon Says. Other weeklong sessions (July 7-Aug. 1) cover introduction to programming, graphics, and programming with Alice software.

Camp participants program their robots to battle each other in games, including Sumo Wrestling, Kick the Can and Balloon Buster.

UAB CIS sponsors the camps as an outreach program. Fewer than 10 of the 460 high schools in the state offer computer science courses.
