BIRMINGHAM, AL — Nine graduating high school seniors across Alabama have been selected for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Early Medical School Acceptance Program (EMSAP) for fall 2001.
EMSAP gives top high school students who qualify a guaranteed place in the University of Alabama School of Medicine after they complete their bachelor’s degree. While at UAB, EMSAP students participate in various clinical, research and volunteer opportunities in addition to their coursework.
To qualify, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in academic subjects. Students must also have a least 30 on the ACT or 1320 on the SAT as well as four years of English, four years of mathematics, one year of chemistry or physics and one year biology.
The 2001 winners are Ryan Ammons, Mobile, Alabama School of Math and Science; Rozalyn Farmer, Cullman, Cullman High School; Matt Malone, Florence, Shoals Christian School; Jennifer Peacock, Dothan, Northview High School; Reesha Shah, Athens, Ga., Clark Central High School; Natasha Varmus, Mobile, St. Paul’s Episcopal; Kexuan Wang, Hoover, Alabama School of Fine Arts; Summer Wells, Irondale, Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School; and Brad Wilson, Gardendale, Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School.
