BIRMINGHAM, AL — Both of UAB’s (University of Alabama at Birmingham) advanced training programs for health care administrators have been accredited by the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA). The nationally ranked Residential Health Administration Program continued its unbroken string of accreditation that began in 1968 and the Executive Health Administration Program received accreditation on its first attempt.
Graduates of either program earn a Master of Science degree in Health Administration (MSHA) through the department of Health Services Administration in the School of Health Related Professions. The MSHA program prepares individuals to assume executive leadership positions in a broad range of health services organizations, including hospitals, physician group practices, health maintenance organizations, integrated delivery systems, long-term care facilities, consulting firms, and insurance companies.
“UAB’s MSHA program has a long history of training senior administrators at hospitals and health care facilities across Birmingham and throughout Alabama,” said Gerald L. Glandon, Ph.D., chair of the department of Health Services Administration. “Our graduates hold senior leadership positions at virtually every Birmingham hospital, as well as with organizations such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama, the Norwood clinic and Alacare Home Health and Hospice.”
Founded in 1965, the MSHA Program at UAB enjoys an excellent reputation, both regionally and nationally, for the high quality of its academic program and the achievements of its more than 700 graduates. The program is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top ten graduate programs in health administration in the country.
The Executive program is for professionals with at least five years of experience either as managers or as clinical professionals in health care organizations. The two year program combines on-campus sessions with distance leaning through the Internet along with a field experience. Faculty from the nationally recognized residential program and from throughout the U.S. teach in the executive format option.
