BIRMINGHAM, AL — A single Faculty Awards Convocation will be held this year to present the university’s highest honors to deserving faculty at 11 a.m. May 19 in the Sirote Theatre of the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center. All UAB faculty and staff are invited.

Awards to be presented include the Odessa Wolfolk Community Service Award, the President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching and the Ellen Gregg Ingalls/UAB Alumni Award. Historically, the awards have been presented in separate, smaller ceremonies during the academic year. By combining the presentations into a single, larger event, university officials hope to more prominently spotlight the honorees.

Receiving the Odessa Woolfolk Community Service Award will be Honors Program Director Ada Long.

Recipients of the President’s Awards will be Engineering Professor Barry Andrews, Associate Professor of Communication Studies Jean Bodon, Joint Health Sciences Assistant Professor Steven Carroll, Professor of Medicine Robert Centor, Professor of Dentistry Charles Cox, Professor Chemistry Gary Gray, Professor of Psychology Carl McFarland, Associate Professor of Education Lee Meadows, Assistant Professor of Optometry Denise Pensyl , Associate Professor of Business Woodrow Richardson and Assistant Professor of Public Health Aaron Stinnett.

Two finalists for the Ingalls award from each school will be honored and the winners will be announced during the convocation. A reception will follow the presentations.
