BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB graduate programs continue to rank highly in U.S. News & World Report’s new listing of best graduate schools.
The School of Public Health is tied for 16th with the University of Illinois-Chicago. The School of Medicine is ranked 26th in the nation. Three specialty programs within the School of Medicine also are highly ranked; AIDS (5th), Internal Medicine (13th) and Women’s Health (14th).
Additionally, two master’s programs within UAB’s School of Health Related Professions are ranked; Health Services Administration (10th) and Physical Therapy (19th). The master’s degree program in the School of Nursing is ranked 21st by the magazine.
The magazine does not annually rank all graduate programs. Other UAB programs that have appeared in their respective most recent rankings include the Ph.D. program in microbiology as the 10th (1999) best in the country, the doctoral program in psychology is 80th (1998), while the master’s program in public affairs holds the 91st (1997) spot.
Rankings are based on the results of surveys sent to deans, faculty and administrators of accredited graduate programs, according to U.S. News and World Report. Survey respondents rate the academic quality of programs depending on the scholarship, curriculum and the quality of faculty and graduates.
