University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor Akhlaque Haque, Ph.D., has been elected to a two-year term on the National Council of Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for the field of public administration that is sponsored by the National Association for Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). His term begins in January 2004.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor Akhlaque Haque, Ph.D., has been elected to a two-year term on the National Council of Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for the field of public administration that is sponsored by the National Association for Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). His term begins in January 2004.

Haque teaches in the UAB Department of Government. He directs the department’s master’s in public administration program and is a senior research fellow with the UAB Center for Urban Affairs. Earlier this year, he was appointed to a three-year term on the Commission on Program Review and Accreditation (COPRA), which is the accreditation arm of NASPAA.

Haque’s research interests are in the areas of administrative theory and behavior, electronic government and geographic information systems, public health and the urban population. Through his research, Haque has received several federal grants, including grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Haque is published widely in peer-reviewed journals such as Public Administration Review, Administration and Society, Public Administration Quarterly, International Journal of Public Administration and the Journal of Ethics and Technology. He is a member of the Public Administration Review editorial board.

Haque earned his master’s degree in economics and his doctorate in urban studies from Cleveland State University in 1990 and 1994 respectively.
