BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Japan-America Society of Alabama (JASA) has elected Carol Argo as its president for 2006. Argo was elected to the post on December 2.
JASA is a private, not-for-profit association that promotes friendship and understanding between individuals in Japan and the United States. JASA is one of 38 regional members of the National Association of Japan-America Societies.
Argo is director of UAB International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS). The ISSS provides various services for the university’s international students, as well as programs and activities that enhance cultural awareness and understanding for students, faculty and staff.
Josh Carter was recently elected vice president of the Alabama Council for International Programs (ACIP) for 2005-2006. ACIP is an organization of post-secondary institutions in Alabama that promotes international education, research and outreach in the state.
Carter is director of UAB Study Abroad, a resource for students seeking opportunities for study, research or internships outside the United States. UAB Study Abroad also coordinates faculty-developed, off-site courses.
