WHAT:

UAB kicks off its second annual Suits 4 Success clothing drive. The drive will collect lightly worn women’s business clothing appropriate for office or retail settings for disadvantaged women who are trying to return to or enter the work force.

WHEN/WHERE:

Monday through Friday, Nov. 12-16, from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at UAB’s John N. Whitaker Building, 500 22nd St. South,

WHY:

The drive is aimed at providing quality business attire to women who lack the financial resources to buy the kind of wardrobe required in a professional setting. Items needed include suits, jackets, skirts, casual pants, shirts, shoes, handbags and accessories.

WHO:

Organized by the UAB Commission on the Status of Women, Suits 4 Success clothing will be donated to My Sister’s Closet, an outreach program of the YWCA of Central Alabama.

BACKGROUND:

The inaugural drive last year was an overwhelming success, collecting nearly a ton of clothing, shoes and accessories. Clothing that is clean, gently worn, reasonably new and preferably on hangers may be dropped off at the drive in-drop off site at the Whitaker Building. Drop boxes also will be located in the Ullman Building, Campbell Hall, Business and Engineering Complex, Humanities Building, Hill University Center, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, School of Education and School of Health Professions.
