George Howard, Dr.P.H., professor in the Department of Biostatistics in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health, is the winner of the fourth annual Ernest Everett Just award in Medical and Public Health Research on African American Health and Quality of Life.
Howard is the overall principal investigator for the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study, a national cohort study of more than 30,000 individuals, providing insights to the excess stroke mortality among African-Americans and Southerners.
This award is in collaboration with the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture and the Medical University of South Carolina. Howard will travel there this fall to present his research.
