Jack Lemons, Ph.D., professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry Division of Biomaterials, is the recipient of the 2014 Sam Brown Bridge Builder Award.
This annual award honors individuals who engage in interdisciplinary, collaborative efforts across campus in ways that embody the vision, character and bridge-building talents vital to the future of UAB.
Lemons’ academic career spans more than 40 years, most of which has been spent at UAB in various positions within the schools of Dentistry, Engineering and Medicine. He has been committed largely to student training and graduate education, serving on more than 300 graduate student dissertation, thesis and research committees; publishing more than 200 journal articles, almost all with student co-authors; contributing more than 600 presentations and abstracts at scientific meetings with student co-authors; and helping students he trained go on to become leaders in the medical device industry and biomedical companies, regulatory and standards agencies, clinical practice, academia, and business.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering also recently announced the creation of the Dr. Jack Lemons Endowed Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering, to honor Lemons and his contributions to graduate education at UAB.
