University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health Assistant Professor Julia Gohlke, Ph.D., was named the 2014 recipient of the F. Clarke Fraser New Investigator Award from The Teratology Society, which is committed to cutting-edge research and authoritative information related to birth defects and other disorders of developmental origin.
This award honors F. Clarke Fraser, one of the founding members of The Teratology Society, for his many contributions to the field of developmental toxicology. The award is presented during the annual meeting of The Teratology Society and features the awardee’s giving a presentation related to his or her research to demonstrate to pre- and postdoctoral students the development of an independent career in birth defects research.
Gohlke has performed several studies on birth defects. Her more recent work examined the association between pre-term birth and heat waves in Alabama.
Gohlke will receive an honorarium and travel expenses to the annual meeting June 28-July 2, where she will deliver a special lecture, “Building a Rewarding Career at the Intersection of Research and Policy.”
