Mike Sloane, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Psychology, was recently elected to the board of directors of the National Collegiate Honors Council. The NCHC is the professional association of undergraduate honors programs and colleges, honors directors, and deans, as well as faculty, staff and students.
Sloane directed the psychology honors program for more than 12 years, served as director of undergraduate studies and was the first vice chairman of the department. In 2004, he was selected to direct the University Honors Program, which was established in 1983 and offers an interdisciplinary arts and sciences curriculum to a select group of highly motivated and talented undergraduates.
In 2000 and 2012, Sloane was named the outstanding teacher in the honors program. He received the 2007 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and has been a UAB nominee for the Professor of the Year to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
