The UAB Faculty Brass Quintet has been invited to lead master classes and give a formal concert at the Riga Conservatory of Music in Riga, Latvia’s capital city. This is the first faculty chamber ensemble from UAB to perform overseas.
The quintet from the Department of Music also will perform recitals in Sladu City, Talsi, Limbazi City, Vlamire City, Smiltene City — all in Latvia — as well as Tallinn, Estonia. In addition, the group will perform two concerts at elementary schools in Riga and Jelgava City, Latvia. A highlight of the tour will be the world premiere of “Fanfare and Dance” by UAB Assistant Professor of Music William Price, D.M.A., and the premiere of an arrangement of Thelonius Monk’s “I Mean You” by UAB Assistant Professor of Music Steven Roberts, D.M.A.
Members of the UAB Brass Quintet are Roberts and Assistant Professor of Music James Zingara, D.M.A., trumpets; instructor Martin Cochran, D.M.A., euphonium; instructor Jeff Koonce, trombone; and instructor Scott Robertson, tuba.
The UAB Faculty Brass Quintet will perform a send-off concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 Oxmoor Rd., Homewood. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 205-934-2265.
