This is the first time PRSA has awarded the scholarship to a UAB student chapter member.

“It is an honor to be selected for such a prestigious scholarship and to be recognized nationally,” Khan said. “UAB’s public relations program continues to help me grow exponentially, and this scholarship represents the success of the curriculum.”

Khan immigrated to the United States from Pakistan in 2016, and she says the love and appreciation for diversity of everyone in the College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Communication Studies has led her to this achievement.

The PRSA Diversity Multicultural Scholarship is highly competitive, with submissions from universities nationwide. It annually assists and recognizes young men and women for outstanding academic achievement and commitment to the practice of public relations. Only two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,500, are awarded to talented communications students of African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native, or Pacific Islander ancestry.

“We are absolutely thrilled for Tehreem,” said Jacquelyn S. Shaia, J.D., Ph.D., director of the Public Relations program. “She is an outstanding student in every sense and has worked extremely hard. The curriculum is intense, demanding and rigorous. All of our students are taught the importance and value of diversity in every context. This scholarship sends a strong message to multicultural students, like Tehreem, that they can and will be successful, particularly in the field of public relations.”

PRSSA membership gives students opportunities for internships, competitions, scholarships, awards and leadership. In addition, the organization connects students to thousands of public relations professionals and organizations for networking in the United States as well as globally.

PRCA/PRSSA at UAB welcomes membership by all students from all majors at UAB.
