Warner K. Huh, M.D., has been named chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
Huh received his medical degree in 1995 from Georgetown University School of Medicine followed by a residency at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to complete a fellowship at UAB in 2002 and then joined as a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty.
During his time with the department, Huh has served as vice chair of Gynecology, the Margaret Cameron Spain Endowed Chair in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, professor in the Department of Surgery, professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the UAB School of Public Health, director of the UAB Comprehensive Ovarian Cancer Program, senior scientist for the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, and medical director of the O’Neal Cancer Service Line.
“I am truly humbled and honored to serve as the next chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UAB and would like to extend my gratitude to Dean Vickers, Reid Jones and senior leadership for their commitment to the department,” Huh said. “This department has a remarkable, rich history and an impressive list of achievements and accomplishments. It is a national and international leader in women’s health care and has contributed to setting the bar in clinical care, research and education. I very much look forward to raising that bar, improving the health of all women in the state of Alabama, and training and mentoring the next generation of leaders in women’s health.”
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty have a regional, national and international reputation for quality clinical and especially tertiary subspecialty care. The department is also renowned for its clinical and translational research and its training of residents and sub-specialists.

“Dr. Huh’s extensive experience and reputation within the community make him an excellent choice for chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology,” said Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., FACS, senior vice president for Medicine and dean of the School of Medicine. “His skill set will continue to strengthen and expand our already accomplished Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.”
Huh will officially assume the role of chair Nov. 1.
