University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business student, was named a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board Scholar and awarded $10,000 to use for tuition and educational expenses.
Hannah Marcelino, aEasy access to education that could lead to job opportunities is also a major element of the scholarship. Marcelino, an undergraduate accounting student, was selected for the scholarship for her high GPA and her involvement within numerous student accounting organizations.
“Thankfully, I was awarded this scholarship which enables me to attend graduate school and earn my Master of Accounting degree,” Marcelino said. “Also, the scholarship will help me reach the 150-hour requirement for the Certified Public Accountant license in Alabama and put me one step closer to earning my CPA license. This scholarship means a lot to me.”
Marcelino says so many people helped her achieve this scholarship, including professors, advisers, friends and her parents.
She specially credits Eddie Nabors, instructor in the UAB Collat School of Business, for her success since he nominated her for the PCAOB scholarship award.
After graduation, she looks forward to starting full time with Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler. Also, she aspires to take and pass as many parts of the CPA exam as possible before she starts her professional career.
PCAOB is a nonprofit corporation that oversees auditors of issuers and broker-dealers. It has awarded academic scholarships to undergraduate and graduate accounting students since 2011.
“I am so grateful to the UAB Collat School of Business for everything I have learned and all the connections and relationships I have made along the way,” Marcelino said.
