The collaborating medical centers include the University of Maryland Medical System, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Health System. Through these clinical affiliations the patients served by these medical centers will continue to have access to clinical support, medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs at CVS/pharmacy stores and MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic division of CVS Health.
" Anxiety, difficulty sleeping, feeling on edge, replaying of the events over and over, intrusive thoughts and images, emotional numbness, feelings of sadness, all can and often do occur in the immediate hours and days after an event," said Josh Klapow, associate professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Public Health.

"Memory improved with the absence of H2A.Z, which was unexpected, since we hypothesized that H2A.Z would be a necessary part of memory formation in normal situations," J. David Sweatt, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Neurobiology said. "This gives us an intriguing new target for therapies for conditions involving memory loss or poor memory formation."
Birmingham has made substantial progress in police-minority relations, say participants in UAB panel
In the wake of recent events in Ferguson, Mo., The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) held a panel discussion and town hall meeting on Tues., Sept. 16, 2014, regarding the relations between law enforcement and minorities in Birmingham. The Rev. Calvin Woods discussed changes for the better in the Birmingham Police Department since the Civil Rights Movement.
The fourth annual event – hosted by UAB Employee Wellness – is open to employees and their families, as well as students and alumni.
“Arrhythmias were very common post HeartWare LVAD implant,” Salpy V. Pamboukian, MD, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, concluded during a presentation here. “Most arrhythmias were associated with clinical symptoms, such as hypotension and decreased VAD flows, and the majority were managed medically. Despite some increases in morbidity, arrhythmias were not associated with increased mortality in patients with a HeartWare LVAD.”
