Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences and associate director for cancer prevention and control at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named president-elect of the American Society of Preventive Oncology. The ASPO is a multi-disciplinary society that advocates for cancer and control research. She has been a member for nearly 20 years.
For the past two decades, Demark-Wahnefried’s research has spanned basic science studies to clinical research that involves nutrition-related concerns of cancer patients and determining effective lifestyle interventions that improve the overall health of cancer survivors and their families.
In May, Demark-Wahnefried was named to the Institute of Medicine’s National Cancer Policy Forum.
