UAB’s College of Arts and Sciences was awarded two grants that will help fund its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
Ashley Penrod put her education on hold and served as the main caretaker for her father after he received two different cancer diagnoses. After seven years, she will graduate with honors at the UAB graduate commencement ceremony.

After 21 years of service, Natalie Vines was medically retired from the military due to severe vision issues caused by two traumatic brain injuries. With treatment from UAB Eye Care, Vines has seen improvement in her vision.  
A Vision Science Graduate Program student in the UAB School of Optometry has received an F30 NIH grant, marking the first of its kind to be awarded in the program history.

Kristine Hopkins, professor in the UAB School of Optometry, has received the 2021 Educator of the Year award from the Alabama Optometric Association.
