University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Social Justice Advocacy Council will host “Stay Woke Alabama: A Social Justice Conference” for graduate, undergraduate and professional students from campuses across Alabama from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, April 8. The event will take place in Heritage Hall, 1400 University Blvd.
TheAmanda Bennett, University of Alabama graduate, co-founder of We are Done student activist movement and former Huffington Post editor at large, will be the keynote speaker.
The daylong conference aims to address the challenges and advantages of doing social justice advocacy work on Alabama campuses. Students engaged or interested in activist work will have a chance to participate in presentations, workshops and panel discussions. Coordinators hope lessons learned will translate into a greater activism impact on campuses and communities statewide.
Registration is free, and breakfast and check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. Students may also register on-site, but swag and food accommodations will not be guaranteed.
